Well, no more than we have come to expect ;>)

...I remember you wrote that once before and I think I
replied I can think of several worse. There is a section which for the
life of me I can't remember where (selective forgetfulness of
experiences that are not worthy of storing) where there is a motorway
(much worse than the A38) running alongside (and do I recall a railway
on the other side too). I admit is doesn't match the section of the
A38 near Streethay (by the way, how can those people live-aboard along
that stretch?!) in terms of proximity but then it is only a relatively
short stretch.

Definitely something wrong with the planning process when they let a
busy highway like a motorway be built alongside a 200 year old place
of tranquility. But then when the road has been there longer than the
canal(as is the case of the A38 which was originally the Roman road
Rykneld Street).....

On the other hand, one might argue that such provenance makes it part
of our heritage and, as such, when the A38 was widened it should alos
have been diverted to avoid running alongside the canal. (It is
interesting that when the widening took place a part of Alrewas was
compulsorily purchased and part of the deal was that a footbridge
would be built over the road to the part of the village that was
detached - the bridge still hasn't been built and I understand at
least two people have died trying trying to cross the road between
their house and the main part of the village.

Cheers
