There was an interesting presentation about this at the NCA meeting in
Moira on Sunday. LEicestershire Council who are the lead in the Ashby
Canal restoration (hooray for them - we need more local authorities
like that!) actually made the very real and expensive effort to get a
Transport Works Order (sp?) and that in effect seals the planning of
the canal and gives them the right for compulsory purchase. It took 6
years to get and cost the around £250K but they will probably save
that in land costs.
