We've just done the best part of 500 miles over the summer. I think in 
our travels we've seen two small plastic cruisers moving on the canals 
(although one was actually quite large and on the Paddington Arm). The 
rivers (or is it the non-BW waterways?) are the only places where small 
plastic jobbies seem to survive. It may be that these are the places 
where the costs of ownership are lower, but I'm not in a position to 
comment.
