Every season I need to rake out, refill and paint the joint between flue and stove. Every season I use 100g of fire cement and keep at least 150g to go hard and chuck out the following year.
I just spotted this Everbuild Heat Mate Sealant (available in black & red) I quote - Heat Mate Sealant is a high modulus permanently flexible 100% silicone which is temperature resistant up to 300°C. Ideal for sealing industrial and high performance gaskets, oven doors etc. Conforms to BS 5889(B) and ISO 11600. http://www.jgpfixings.co.uk/prod5.asp?ID=275&offset=&prod_id=199 Why have I never seen this in chandleries ? Seems to me that rake out, paint and then seal with this gunk might be more effective. I'd probably choose the black. Beeky
