Lance, if you are using the ladder you don't need the backstay adjuster.  Isn't 
it removable?

Howdy all! Hope you're having a great 4th o' July weekend.
My boat has the standard, factory installed adjustable split back stay. One 
wire stay to each corner and the pulley system pinned in the middle of the 
transom. It works well; but, makes it hard to use the ladder which is right up 
the middle of the transom. Has anyone ever used a different type system that 
allows the center to be free? I have a system on my Capri 25 and on my C-22s 
that worked well with the adjustable portion being a series of blocks on one 
end and the line running through a block on the main back stay and going down 
to the other corner of the transom.
