There are some details I need to double check before I draw the full detail.
Many of the parts are from the original chocker style adjuster. I think the
lower port stay goes to a triangle plate and then both the 4:1 fiddle base
and the port cascade wire attach there. That keeps all the forces applied
where as Catalina expected them. Sometimes we forget there are hidden
structural elements in the deck and hull of a Catalinas.

Wow Phil,

You're my hero! Thanks. I was going with something very similar to that.

Lance,

Wing Tip sports a double cascade rig originally designed for the Mumm 30
racing fleet on San Francisco Bay by the riggers at Swenson's Marine in
Alameda.

We'd have to compare the upper back stay wire lengths on the rigging specs
but I can't see why it would work nearly the same. If you look at the C270
profile I wrote you can part of it. My problem was the split stay passing
through the bimini that's wasn't on for that photo. The bimini had zippers
to allow for the stock arrangement to function but this one is a lot better.

The new double cascade set-up also allows me to go very slack when I'm
raising or lowering my mast single handed. However If I was using Wing Tip
in open Ocean and expected to push her service limits I'd return to the
stock rigging. Racing gear always carries a little more risk with it and it
only takes one unscheduled going very slack mistake in heavy conditions to
ruin your crossing.

I do need the adjuster as she does race at times. The adjuster is removable;
but, I am looking for an alternative, less complicated arrangement.

Lance, if you are using the ladder you don't need the backstay adjuster.
Isn't it removable?

Howdy all! Hope you're having a great 4th o' July weekend.

My boat has the standard, factory installed adjustable split back stay. One
wire stay to each corner and the pulley system pinned in the middle of the
transom. It works well; but, makes it hard to use the ladder which is right
up the middle of the transom. Has anyone ever used a different type system
that allows the center to be free? I have a system on my Capri 25 and on my
C-22s that worked well with the adjustable portion being a series of blocks
on one end and the line running through a block on the main back stay and
going down to the other corner of the transom.
