Steve, I'll second Jim's advice on the thru-hulls. The originals are simply nods to economy, and really need upgrading. Here's a link to a fantastic source of info that will get you started-- http://www.blumhorst.com/catalina27/albums/1st-haul-out/1st-haulout-day3.htm . Dr. Judy has a whole stack of stuff that helps a great deal, with very clear explanations and pictures. I wish my pictures were as good--all my 'befores' are very murky.

It is just a regular copper pipe fitting glassed into the hull. The ones on mine were barely threaded. I always had just a little bit of water in the forward compartment where the head fitting is and never could figure it out. With a proper thru-hull, it was dry this year. I am now a believer that this is a few hours well spent. I don't know that it will ever sink the boat, but it could definitely be a source of unwanted moisture. It is also a good time to dump the gate valves if you still have them, that could also be a problem. Have been reading, and learning. Two questions for all of you: How much of a potential problem are the OEM fresh water inlets on my C27, and should they be replaced? Would like to remove part of the stern rail to accommodate the swim ladder. Currently, you have to be a bit of a contortionist to get through the rail using the swim ladder. I saw Phil's modification, using the swim ladder and the mast support instead of some of the rail. Any ideas?
