Hey, Tim--I thought there was a mistake in your typing, so checked the class
site and the rules are exactly as stated. Here's where I think there's an
error: <<maximum chord is not to be greater than 2">>. The chord is the
distance covered by any section of the keel/rudder/wing/etc. from fore to
aft (as in "Keel foil is 13.5 root chord, 12 inches tip chord). Two inches
has to be a mistake--either they mean max keel section thickness is not to
be greater than 2", or maximum chord is not to be greater than 2 feet. Can
you get an opinion on this?

Also, let me know your target speeds--where you might want to find yourself
on a beam reach, and where you might like to be at about 45 degrees off the
wind. That's the range where the keel design will most help or hinder you,
and I can design for those speeds in those conditions.

One other question--are you planning to have a daggerboard-type keel or
fixed? Or, hey, canting? It's only 185 pounds max. And allowed. Don't
see anyone else doing it, though. But...

for the i550, and how much lead you're going to carry in your bulb/wing.

tip to root length, keel foil is approx 60 inches.
Keel foil is 13.5 root chord, 12 inches tip chord.
Laminated 1.25 inch x 2.00 inch sections of white oak, skinned with e-glass.

as afar as the box, this is pretty much it:

3.9 Keel profile and chord are optional, however, *maximum chord is not
to be greater than 2" and maximum profile is not to be greater than 13.75".*
3.10 Maximum length of keel from bottom of hull to bottom of keel bulb
at deepest point is not to be greater than 49.6".
4.0 Design
4.1 Minimum weight of hull, keel and rig is 800lbs.
4.2 Max keel weight is 185lbs. Minimum keel weight is 150lbs.
4.4 Keel bulb is required.
4.5 Keel bulb shape is optional.
4.6 Keel may be fixed, or retractible.
4.8 Rudder may be of any profile, and shape desired.
4.9 Dual rudders are allowed.

I can print up to 42 inches by 100 feet, so I would be honored if you
contributed template files.

the 2 inch by 13.5 inch max is going to limit the foil sections pretty much.

thks alt!!!
