Now that's my kind of sailor - 3 tons of boat, 3 tons of beer!

I guess it might work for a day sailor but for a 6 ton C27 with all the
rigging, etc. And with the mast up then you’ve got all that windage area to
worry about getting blown over in a blow – I’ve seen that happen more than
once. Personally, I’d be a little leery of the whole set up. Seems like a lot
of effort and risk to save on a gallon of bottom paint. But that’s just my 2
cents.

When I say a lift, I mean a frame that sinks below the floating boat that is
then winched (electrical winch) up clear of the water. My source of the lift
suggests that I do not need to support the keel, instead just let it hand below
and support the hull. He suggested that I use a pair of carpeted rails that
run almost the length of the boat and mostly under the boat to support it and
let the keel hang in the open air.

My take is that the cradle for drysailing is going to need to be incredibly
wide and stout. When you trailer, the mast is down. When you say lift, do you
mean hoist, or one of those floating things?

Joe, call Catalina for cradle info. They sent me one when I was inquiring about
trailering. It was specifically for the C-27 that had all the dimensions for
the factory cradle. The one I had is no where to be found.

I am considering getting a lift for the Catalina 27. This would allow me to

dry sail the boat and not to worry with bottom paint. A neighbor has one

and we are negotiating on the price. My question here is how would I best

rig a cradle to hold the hoisted boat? Any suggestions as to size and

dimensions or shape would be appreciated. Actual plans might be a good idea

if anyone has them. Does anyone know of a Catalina 27 that is hoisted on a

lift in this manner?
