I'm impressed, the fastest I've ever gotten a Catalina up to was 14 something
(not counting the C15 we took out in 45 knots). I'd be more specific but it's
been 12-13 years. I'll let you guess at the size but it was longer than the 510
next to her.

Wasn't it back in Maryland where a snagged halyard pulled on a new Hunter 26
bow pulpit and 4 feet or so of deck came with it. Hunter paid to hush it up,
did a recall to add 6-8 hull deck through bolts (there was none as shipped),
and then ran a series of magazine adds claiming all Hunters had the strength of
a bolted through hull deck seam.

We had a very avid C22 racer buy a new Hunter 270 (that also got recalled for
the deck seam) because it looked fast on paper. On the water my friend's C250
beats it on all points of sail, and it's not even close.

What a potential C27 buyer needs to know is their are many generations of C27
each bringing specific improvement with it. Many of the oldest boats have been
updated with these improvements but many have not. Somewhere I have a list of
13 specific items that need to be checked. I recommend any boat of this size be
surveyed before you buy and the surveyor be fed this list when you arrange for
the survey.

I have sailed some of the older, in fact, the oldest of the Hunters, three
of them in fact, and they did, in fact, sail well in the winds I had them in,
top speed only 15 knots. But they were obviously too lightly built, small
chain plates, thin wire for the standing rigging, undersized turnbuckles, and
the like.
