I'm not sure if you should but since my primaries are CST30s if I put just a 35 pound lean on the handle that's over 1,000 pounds. I recall a couple of times really getting into it trying to flatten sails going to weather.
And of course my infamous close call on the Columbia River was caused by luffing to tighten a halyard, so now I tend to crank first.
