Joe, and others, Just down the Road from you at backyard Boats in Shady side, Maryland (south of Annapolis) it's $150 Crane fee and 3 bucks a foot (EACH WAY). For those who are in shock... That is $252 to take it down and $252 to Raise it back up! Get this, When the Rigger put the rig back up he attached the front lowers to the inside hole on the uppers chain plate. I guess he forgot to look up and see that the rig is a mast head rig!
Cool thought.... that would have allowed for some serious aft mast rake!!! (...wonder if anyone sails the rig like that?) I corrected it, but only to the points I had marked as the mast stood prior to it coming down. It is tuned and plumb but it could use a better tuning job. I'm just too cheep to buy two Tension guages!! I've got the numbers!! Our deal was to Overhaul!! Re-wire, remove the PVC conduit that had come loose which made our mast sound like Big Ben when anyone so-much as broke wind at anchor! We added a combo steaming /foredeck light and a Davis anchor light. Got rid of the monster Tricolor light and actually connected the VHF antenna that had its coax severed some how. We created a nice tight wire bundle and wire tied 18" sections of pipe insulation all the way down about 2 feet apart . We hung the wires to the mast head so not to place any weight of the 34 feet of wire and coax on any of the fitting. I can't remember exactly how we created the hanger but I know we are not concern'd about the hanger giving way and causing a pull on the fittings We found 3 foot long 1/2 inch wide wire ties we put those on the wire bundle and fed the thing all the way up the mast.
