And not to be even MORE obnoxious..  But, Per "Inland and International 
Navigation Rules"


RULE 21 (a).... MASTHEAD LIGHT. White light placed fore and aft ...(snip)  
There' no mention of anything like Steaming or Mast light !!
Also .. RULE 23 (c) (i) (ii) (iii)...  * which may surprise some of you...**    
And ...  Nav Rules..   ANNEX I ;  Para 2 (d)....through  (f)
(As opposed to the Also often mis-named "Anchor light" Which correctly is 
defined as "ALL-ROUND LIGHT.." 
which is sometimes at the top of the mast, but NOT required to be there OR.. 
360 degrees..)

See:  RULE 21 (e)....." all-round light showing unbroken light 360 degrees".... 
   EXCEPTION:  ANNEX I; 9, (b) (i) (ii)..  SNIP..  "not to be obscured more 
than 6  degrees....snip"

Then there IS that pesky ..RULE 30.... LOL 

Now there's something to think (discuss?) about..
