Hey Mitch,

I was in a similar position at a company I used to work for. When I first
started out on my CCIE journey, I wrote a PAGE long letter to my boss
explaining why it is beneficial to have a CCIE on staff. They didn't buy
it. Basically they said they don't need that kind of expertise. It was at
that time I realized I would start looking for another job at a place that
would support my endeavor for the CCIE. I was VERY serious about getting my
CCIE and I knew I could not do that without support.

I went and found another job that supported my efforts (Cisco hehe go
figure) but still paid for the whole thing out of pocket (I was a contractor
so no free labs). I know that sounds extreme, but hey you gotta do what you
gotta do. If they don't want to support you find somebody that will. My
two cents.
