Firstly, thanks for taking the time to respond. I originally signed up for the CCIE R&S list via the onlinestudylist.com web interface, and subsequent mailman activation process. At no point was I given any option to opt in or out of receiving off-list messages (commercial in nature, or otherwise). At no point was I linked to the generic privacy statement. As this seems contrary to what you're saying above, I respectfully suggest that you familiarise yourself with the sign-up process from the 'end user' perspective. I do acknowledge that each individual message received has an 'unsubscribe' option that is clear and simple to use. ...but in my view -- and that's all I'm doing here; expressing my view -- that's not good enough. I've been "opted in" to receiving commercial e-mail, without providing my consent. That makes it spam. That the list is 'free' is irrelevant. > > Secondly, I'm not sure why you're spending countless moments discussing this > on a free email list that we provide. Oh, that's an easy one. PPS is just one of many 'guilty' parties that do this. My inbox is full of junk from companies that didn't ask for my permission to send commercial e-mail. It's an example of poor 'netiquette'. I'm reasonably passionate about privacy, so I don't mind spending 'countless moments' to raise awareness. > > I have sent your email to my COO and Marketing Manager and have directed them > to remove you from future PPS announcements. Thanks. I think I was able to remove myself, though, using the aforementioned unsubscribe function. Or is there more to it than that? Maybe PPS has my contact information stored for some other purpose? > > I'm sorry if this had caused you (and / or anyone else reading this) any form > of headache or if we have wasted your time - that was not our intent - our > intent was to help. ..and get some commission for any successful placements, of course! > > If there's anything else you'd like to discuss or anything else I can assist > you with - please reach out to me directly. Thanks for making yourself available.
