Not sure why, but I have always seen negotiating codec g729 when there is
incoming call from PSTN and the preference of codec did not matter ?

You've got the preference backwards.

In order to force it to G711 within the site,
you'll need to have g711ulaw as preference 1.  On the inter site link, it
will negotiate down based on bandwidth.  It won't negotiate "up".

  codec

  hi

usually we r requested to use g729 between sites and g711 within sites,
my question is about tis command:

        voice class codec 1

      codec preference 1
        g729r8

      codec preference 2
        g711ulaw

when we have h323 gateway on BR1, can we use this command on BR1 h323
gateway for both dial peers pointing to CCM:

      dial-peer voice
        3000 voip

      destination-pattern
        2...

      session target
        ipv4:SUB

      voice-class h323
    1

      voice-class codec
      1

      dtmf-relay
        h245-alphan

      no vad

      dial-peer voice 3001
        voip

      destination-pattern
        2....

      session target
        ipv4:PUB

      voice-class h323
    1

      voice-class codec
      1

      dtmf-relay
        h245-alphan

      preference 2

      no
  vad

note: 2... is BR1 site extensions

using voice class codec here, does it violate the task of g729 only between
  sites?
