I strongly recommend the Centos Linux distribution. It is a RHEL rebuild, it is free of charge, and well supported. Updates appear immediately after they are released by Red Hat. We are using it on all our workstations. _Plus_, you can take advantage of the repository of precompiled crystallographic software at http://apt.bioxray.dk via apt or yum.
