Installing crystallographic software shouldn't be a problem on an AMD
Opteron. But if you have a choice, you might want to install a different
OS than RedHate. SUSE & Ubuntu seem to be better choices at the moment.

RHEL4 (or rather, CentOS-4) works very well here on a range of AMD and Intel machines, both 32 and 64 bit. Even a Mac Pro works - but in that case with a self-compiled kernel.
