Hi
Alex Fisher responded to me off-list, and I suggested we bring in some more people to do, for instance, the web stuff. But there are also other things that must be attended to, such as the ISO maintenance and so on.

As well, Pablo Angel responded to this list already, offering to help.

Hi all,

I notice, no doubt belatedly, that there seem to be a lot of pending
issues in this project. Alex Fisher, the maintainer of the project,
has not evidently posted here since May; I just wrote him and hope to
hear from him soon.

So: who is maintaining the site? Who wants to? What needs to be done?

Best,
Louis

Good questions. We were asking this ourselves a couple of months back.
As I said then, I'm willing to put some time into this.

Thanks!

As for what
needs to be done, I think it's way past time some aspects of joining,
being listed, etc, were automated via a form on the site.

I agree. Using the CollabNet system it's not so easy, I've been told. We could perhaps use the wikis for this, or some other servers linked to OOo's subdomain, but what I would like to see is... probably what others would:

* cd distributor learns of what we want and joins this project; subscribes to this list and, ideally, releases@, which is where notices of new releases are sent. * cd distributor fills out form on the web; lists his company, location, what he offers * project members review it (or designated bunch of them). If it complies with our trademark and other provisions, he's listed. * periodic updates are sent to him via subscription to releases or possibly even by RSS, if the technology permits.

** Review is still important here. We list cd distributors (and, one day, OEMs) for free, as a courtesy to the community, but the idea is also to enjoin those wanting to be listed to carry the right builds.

As well, we don't allow advertising, just website. We *could* allow advertising (discrete) but then I would want to impose a fee schedule for it, and would suggest that advertising companies be listed on a different page. Not a more obscure one; if anything, a more visible one.

For now, I'd like to give Alex time to reply. He's in Australia, where it's the middle of the night. But if others want to help out, please!
