Yeah I agree that it probably wouldn't work in a house and that the
reception of the X-10 camera is pretty bad. My place is pretty small - only
about 1,000 square feet.
I would NEVER use the X-10 for security purposes. Imagine how easy it would
be for a thief to just cruise around town with one of those receivers
plugged into their cigarette lighter while they monitor the receiption on a
5" TV. That gives a thief a "birdseye" view into your home when you might
not be there.
I recommend closed circuit TV for security. I'd still use the X-10 for
controlling lights, but as Sandy Clark pointed out - it's more of a toy than
a something that can be relied upon. I've had the same problem she did, but
it turned out to be interference caused by big semi trucks passing my home
(they have too much power in their radios, even though the frequencies are
different, they still have an effect). So I just moved the transceiver
farther from the street and now I have no interference.
