Gel,

Heh-- that's pretty funny! You're a funny guy, and I'd like to buy you a
cold beer some day when I meet you. You sound like you'd be a lot of fun at
parties, and that you draw young and impressionable people to you. That's
great!

Tell me one thing though, and please be serious if you would: exactly how
would you react if some guy came up to you and started making lewd comments
about your four year-old daughter? Or your wife? Or your mother? You seem
to be able to make fun of anything that smacks of violence, as if that isn't
good enough for you-- as if you have a better way.

I would really like to know what that better way is. Now, I don't mean some
far-flung liberal theory that is not based in reality; I mean something to
which real men would listen and say, "You know, Gel has an excellent point.
I never really thought of it that way. I can see how that would work."

To be completely fair and put myself on the same spot, here's what I do. I
keep my mouth shut and give props by default. If there's a right of way, I
offer it. I don't sweat unintended mishaps -- even property damage --
because it just happens to everyone eventually. All that's cool. If
someone shows disrespect to me, I ask out loud if he has something to say to
me. If he just walks away, then he gets his little dig but at the same time
he shows everyone within earshot that he didn't have the balls to push it,
so we're even enough that anything left over is a rounding error. If he
pushes it, or if he shows disrespect to my wife or underaged children, then
I swear before Almighty God that I'll take him down one way or the other.

This is a reasonable, legal, and effective way of living as a free man
without depriving others of their rights.

So... how do you handle such things, Gel? And none of this "I don't get
myself into those situations" stuff-- it isn't always up to you. Seriously
now, what do you do?

Respectfully,
