There were some changes, and they were understandable - they were make for
the English audience. The version I have from ToonAnime (a bootleg version)
and is somewhat different than the English version. Mind you the English
translation on that bootleg colletion varies in quality from fairly good to
"All your base are belong to us" type.

Don't even call it by that name. It was released under the title "Warriors
of the Wind", and one of the more horrid butcher jobs I've ever had the
misfortune to watch. I can understand why Myazaki was so upset over it and
refused to allow translations of his work into English until Disney, and
Pixar were able to work out the production deal with him.

I believe that Disney has already made a deal with Studio Ghibli on Howl's
Moving Castle. That should be a very interesting translation of a young
adult novel by English writer Dianne Wynne-Jones into Japanese then into
American English.
