Its easy, if a couple gets married/civil union they are the same as married in the eyes of the law, and we can use another word to keep the christian right happy :>

First we can pass an amendment to not allow gay couples the same rights. What about next when the christian right takes a stand aganist swingers?? Anyone going to hedonism will not be allowed to be married becuase they are not honoring their wedding vows. It's just ass backwards for MY country to try and go aganist all the other constitutional amendments and put a block on getting new rights instead of getting the new rights. This thing got pulled down the road to religion when all it really was is the desire for couples to be able to be couples. Not throwing it up into others faces just to be happy and have the same rights.

Good golly..perhaps you've found a solution to the problem, Bill.

Now to just figure out what happens with insurance, mortgages, health
care etc. as these issues are aside and apart from any Religious or
  moral aspects.

Do you oppose them having something that is exactly like marriage
legally except its called a civil union??

Then you can keep your religous worries out of it and be happy?
