  a little education guys...

The word coloreds is not a good word to use today

Just thought you'd like to know that.

I happen to agree with you on that.  I used the word only because that was the
wording used on the signs posted in various places enforcing the discrimination.

I distinctively remember voting to end the practice. End the Poll Tax, End the
"property owner" provisions in voter registration qualifications.  Others have
extended that to not even requiring the voter to speak English.

My great-grandparents were slave holders in Southeast Texas and I will not
even use the term they used to refer to them.   Again, I thank my creator that
the practice is behind us.

Today, I have a next door neighbor (in a middle class subdivision) who happen
to be black. (He is an Air Force Officer)   We have no problems whatsoever,
joining for the traditional back yard BBQ, Or any other social activity.  It
just is a non-problem as far as I am concerned, other than a little envy because
weeds just seem not to grow in his yard, like they do in mine (grin)  She has
shared with  me some of the techniques of preparing "soul food" and I, in turn,
imparted some of my experience with Tex-Mex and other southwest recipes.  Have
you ever tried Brisket, smoked sausage and corn bread dressing at the same time?

On the other side of me, and in fact the last arrivals as the subdivision was
being built is a lesbian couple who are likewise great neighbors.   My own kids
(now grown and married) were never taught to hate either of them, in fact spent
summers tending to their lawn for extra spending money.  I still am of the
opinion that all tax, legal and other benefits granted currently to married
couples should equally apply to them as well.  I don't think it would take
anything away from me of the relationships within my own family.
