You are correct, however different people were suspended for different
amounts of times, there were people who entered the stands just to try to
break up the fight, they only got 5 games. The second person to enter the
stands and they hit somebody got 30 games.

Artest didn't really do much hitting, he just slammed the guys head against
the chair and floor, or at least tried too.

The NBA probably shouldn't have the authority to fine players for domestic
abuse and the like. However, while in uniform and acting as an agent of the
NBA, the NBA can do whatever they want to a play who is out of line.

Did Stern punish Ronnie for hitting someone?  Or did he punish him for 
going into the stands and hitting a fan?  I don't think it was for 
hitting someone.  Players involved in domestic abuse aren't suspended. 
They hit someone.  NBA doesn't do anything.  The fines are not related 
to the morality of Artest's action.
