I marvel every week at how good the show is and how it completely invalidates the notion that a remake of an original can't be lightyears better than the original. The original was fun space cowboy adventure, but this is actually a drama with deeper than average characters, good writing, and honest to god acting!
Interestingly the IMDB review [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0314979/#comment] of the 2003 mini series claims the exact opposite. This person apparently hated the acting, or lack of as he claimed. He also is apparently not a fan of CGI effects. Nor the drama of the show, lamenting the lack of humor and light hearted adventure of the first one.
