They've been saying that nature is trying to take back NO for decades, my
grandparents lived there for years, my father went to college at Tulane, lots
of family history there, and as long as I can remember there's been somebody
saying, "the Mississippi is trying to take NO back..."

but it's strange, at the same time they say that, they'll say "but it won't
happen in my lifetime..."

and on Tuesday I heard it again.

NPR was interviewing the mayor or some such and his response to the question,
"Will we lose NO to the river?" was, "Certainly not in our lifetime"

The mighty Mississippi is not the only river flowing in NO, looks like Denial
is flowing freely in southern Louisiana, too.

I guess it depends on how much faith you have in the Army Corps of engineers
and their dam/levee that is preventing the Mississippi from going down its
ancient channel right through the heart of NO. The fact that they must
dredge/repair this facility on nearly a daily basis to prevent the river from
taking it out, says to me that someday it is probably going to win. Whose
lifetime that day is in is anyone's guess, I guess.
