Sounds like a DNS problem to me.  I don't know how AOL checks mail,
and typically would assume it required DNS to be functioning - but who
knows.

I would drop to the command line and type "ipconfig /all" to get a
list of all the configured adapters and their settings.  This should
tell you if the DNS server is missing.  Another possibility is that
they have inadvertantly configured more than one network config and
that machine is attempting to send requests through another adapter
(ie: a VPN adapter).
