That's just not true, generally speaking. From just a very basic point of 
view, a language with typed variables will out perform one that is untyped, 
all other things being equal. (Variable type conversions will have to occurr 
at SOME point, right?) I think CF kicks ass, and it is very good at what it 
does. But the bottom line is, it does trade in speed in preferance to other 
advantages.

Not necessarily true. We just finished a very complex web based data 
acceptance center that accepts, parses, stores, and returns data formatted 
via XML. .NET's (and VS.net's) native XML support actually made development 
on this project easier, and the speed comparisons weren't even close.

In this instance, the .NET costs were significantly less than CF, including 
performance and customer satisfaction considerations.

Well, again, i'm not so sure about that. The app i mentioned above is web 
based...and .NET beat CFMX in just about every situation. So, really, like 
you said, it's whatever tool is right for that job. CF isn't always the 
winner, but it should never be outright dismissed.
