What was your original point in mentioning that DC has violence? I think every city in every corner of the world does. Basically anyplace there's humans. Minneapolis has gang violence, although I have no qualms riding my bike into downtown. Heck, even the upper penninsula of Michigan has gang violence and something weirder call the "UP Triangle" where ~13 people have disappeared.
