well, I was thinking about this. As a parent, are you doing the kids any favors here? I don't know how old they are, but it's a fact that if you own an animal you should do your best to take care of it. That's how I got into the foster care thing -- my daughter repeatedly asked for a puppy or a kitten then lost interest when it was no longer cute and its chances of finding a permanent home were greatly reduced. So we started doing this.
Most SPCA's and such have sliding scale spaying. You may make too much to get one cat spayed on a sliding scale basis, but I think many vets would see your problem if you are dealing with a dozen or more. I don't really deal with unwanted pets -- what I do is keep wanted ones out of the pound when somebody's life goes kablooie... but if you'll remind me (off-list if you like) of where you live and schtuff I will see if I can find something out. I know that the freecycle pet policy is nationwide and that our freecycle group has a pet moderator that helps with problems like this one -- perhaps yours does too. >Dana, et al, I appreciate the tips.
