I agree.  One thing that I would like to add is that the internet (email, news groups, 
chat, etc.) have given many people the
feeling of anonymity.  And some people allow that feeling to shed their sense of 
decency thinking that they don't need to be as
polite or conscientious of other people's feelings as when they are speaking on the 
phone or in person.  As much as I like having
the net around I do believe that it has had a negative affect on some aspects of 
society in varying degrees (if you are a naturally
rude person then I think you would tend to be an extremely rude person on the net).

Just my 2 centavos.

P.S. someone mentioned that the amount of text that is quoted in replies here is a bit 
much - I agree.  We should all snip out the
parts that are irrelevant and especially the parts that someone else has left quoted 
in their reply.
