Actually, where I grew up there were blue laws in place until the 70's sometime - stores were all closed on sundays until someone took it to court as being a religious law.
My feelings about this sort of thing is that our ideas of freedom EVOLVE. When our country was founded in 1776 slavery was still immoral, its just that folks weren't enlightened enough to know it yet. Some people still dont' know it now. At that time I suspect our founding fathers thought they WERE being very modern and enlightened in their time, even though compared to the freedom we give ourselves now religiously, they weren't. But I do believe its the beauty of the rights given us by our founding fathers - they were left deliberately non-specific as to what freedom of religion meant - so it could be interpreted appropriately for the time. ______________________________________________________________________ Get the mailserver that powers this list at http://www.coolfusion.com Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/cf-community@houseoffusion.com/ Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/index.cfm?sidebar=lists
