Oh, yeah. He is a politician, and has probably loved every side of every issue at times.
I just hear all the time that he has continued to show contempt and hatred for the troops, and I can't find history of that in his words or actions. There is no doubt that he said some things I really don't like when he came back from Vietnam. But I give him slack on that since that entire time and experience could not have been an easy thing. Many people who came back did not, in the end, turn their anger into an attempt to change things, which he did. Those vets who were there and saw the bad stuff (and did the bad stuff) have assured me he was closer to right than wrong, but that is part of what happens in war, especially an anti-guerilla war fought by conscripts on both sides. And that you don't come back home and talk about it. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas seems to be the rule.
