He's not a world leader despite Vatican City's supposed independence. He doesn't command an army, he has no economic pull, he cannot effect large scale government policies. His opinion on world events is only of importance to catholics and some conservative Christians.
JPII did much to reach out to other denominations and faiths, and cement together people of faith regardless of the religion. Benedict is undoing all of JPII's work. I think you heavily over estimate the power that the catholic church really has. -- Scott Stewart ColdFusion Developer SSTWebworks 7241 Jillspring Ct. He is a world leader. He is the leader of an independant city state, the Vatican. That is in addition to being the Pope. To state otherwise shows either contempt or ignorance. IIRC, the Vatican is not a UN member and, therefore, is not subject to any UN oversight. If the Pope wanted, he could turn the entire Society of Jesus loose on the UN and wreak havok on them. >If the pope was a world leader, he'd be in front of the UN explaining >himself. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Deploy Web Applications Quickly across the enterprise with ColdFusion MX7 & Flex 2 Free Trial http://www.adobe.com/products/coldfusion/flex2/?sdid=RVJU Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/message.cfm/messageid:238477 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.5
