Visa stamps are good for 3 years and visa usually 6. If your stamp is expired, but you have a valid visa, you can legally work in the USA but you can't get back in without getting that stamp extension (which is a letter from DHS). If you let the extension lapse, then you can be in the situation your co-worker finds himself in. America's attitude should be to take ANY hardworking qualified person as quickly and easily as possible. America should be THE PLACE to go for the world's cream of the crop. Do we want America to be the most talented country on Earth, or do we want it to be mediocre?
