Larry, I think it is a perfectly valid question. It should get asked. It gets asked in every other country (you want to try to sell US produce in Quebec, machinery or electronics in Japan, or anything in China?), why not here?
The difference in the US is that the general consensus is to "live and let live", where in most other countries, the general consensus is often protectionistic. The answer to me, though, it pretty obvious. You wouldn't BUY a gas station with the thought of blowing it up. You would just get a guy hired that has a set of keys. You would buy it if you wanted to make money. (There is a question, then, of foreign-owned businesses, and whether foreign leverage could reach a point where it was economically a weapon, but we have bigger problems with the trade deficit with China than local ownership of businesses.)
