well, HDTV is a given. I don't know that you can get a flatscreen that's not at least HD ready (meaning you'd have to get a box from your cable or satellite provider that carries the HD signal).
I hear plasma's brighter, but doesn't last as long. I have an LCD (HD) that looks awesome. It's a small set (26"... saving up for a 37"), but shows like Lost (anything with water, really) and football look AWESOME in HD.
