Unless you plan to kill the entire world population -1, there is probably going to be somebody pissed off enough at you for killing whom you have killed to take up arms and fight back at you. It's exactly what you are advocating. Kill the ones that come directly at you, that's self defense. But until one can address the reasons these people feel a need to fight there will always be somebody to take up arms.
