If you need something on a daily basis then spend the money to get the best dedicated unit you can, if you just have an occasional need for something then a phone based system works fine.
I have both, there is no real difference in the accuracy or the ease of entering addresses etc. but the bigger screen on a dedicated sat nav does make a difference to the usability.
