It gets much better after season 1. The Sci-Fi channel still plays reruns of it all the time. Especially every weekday at 6, I think. Every once in while, they will show it all day. They kind of show them in order, but not always. Blockbuster has them too, if you maybe want to check out some of the later seasons before buying them.
Have you watched any of Stargate: Atlantis?
