Now children lets quit the pissing contest and try to get along or I'm sending
both of you to separate corners for the rest of the play period.

That said, I've been running CF7 Enterprise and BlueDragon 7 for J2EE side by
side for almost a year now. They deploy the same with the cfm and related files
being warred along with the relevant support files. The war or ear files are
deployed to the app server (in this case JBoss EAP). The apps I develop do not
use any vendor specific code. I can take the exact same code set and deploy it
on either the BD or CF instances and there is no real noticeable difference. As
far as the user is concerned there is no difference.

There are a couple of things that are specific to BlueDragon (ie., cfimage and
interfaces) and some stuff that's specific to CF, but its all stuff I don't
use. The only real difference I've seen is that BD appears to run a bit faster.
I don't have any stats for that, I haven't run any load testing yet.

That said one critical difference is that I've found New Atlanta to be much
more responsive to questions and user comments than Adobe. I had one question
that I sent into NA and got an answer later from the president of New Atlanta,
Vince Bonfanti. I ended up getting a minor patch for my problem emailed to me
from NA about a couple of days later. In response to another problem the New
Atlanta support engineers wrote DLL's so that a .Net app could communicate with
another of our apps.

I have never had that response from Adobe, or MacroMedia for that matter. That
level of customer service is critical. And its not really because we were
paying customers. I've seen New Atlanta do the same for people using the free
server.

Finally a big difference is the cost. BD for J2EE is considerably cheaper than
CF8 Enterprise and performs the same. That is a big advantage.

regards,

larry
