I've been doing this for as long as I can remember... the PC in the garage is still XP SP2 but it can access all the shares on the two Vista machines to play music. Although I suppose upgrading isn't a bad idea in any case. All I did was enable "File Sharing" in the Network and Sharing center (type "Network" into the start menu to bring it up). Then any shares you've made _should_ be accessible (mine are accessible to two XP boxes, my BSD NAS and my Linux router). I'm sorry if this is a silly question, but did you do this? I definitely have problems with shares when I throw my office VPN in the mix... but that's for everything (the VPN takes over and I can't see ANY local resources).
