Do you have password protected sharing on or off? If "on" perhaps trying it with it off? Perhaps start simpler? I just checked my (working) shares and they're all simple shares (not "advanced") letting "Everyone" have "Reader" role and just me (my admin account) have "Owner". I'm sorry I'm not being much help... this has just never been a problem for me.
