..22 single shot or revolver. You might be better off with a bat though.

..38 +p ( you have to pay more for the rounds) is popular in back up or
pocket guns. Stay away from .25 or .380. There are any number of cheap and
reliable .357 revolvers around. Taurus makes some nice ones. There is a
very cool looking 5 round revolver that can fire either .45 or .410 shells.
Must be disgusting on the wrists, but would be incredible for someone that
isn't going to be able to shot a lot for something to have in the house.

For automatics I like 10mm, .40, and my personal favorite the ever popular
..45. There are so many automatics out there under $500 that I can't tell you
what to like. That is a personal taste issue. My current favorite pistol s
the Springfield xd45. It just fits perfect in my hands. Adam likes his
glock. I know die hard colt 1911 fans, others that will carry an HK USP
till they die. You have to put down rounds to see what's comfortable for
you. How big are your hands? Do you want a double or single stack
magazine? Barrel length? I carry so I like the compact, but for someone
that is just a target shooter, or that this is their house gun, or for a
duty weapon you may want that 5" barrel.

Does Trinidad allow private firearms ownership?

I know some Mexican gun owners and have spoken to some from Europe and
Australia and it's incredible what they have to go through to acquire and
store weapons.
