economy suffers for it, then there WILL be a change to the number and types
of LEGAL immigrants that are allowed in - because we all know that those
who's pocketbooks are most likely to be affected are also those most likely
to be able to change the laws."

Supply and demand dictates that someone will take the jobs, maybe at a
higher rate of pay.  It doesn't have to be immigrants who fill the jobs
though.  There are plenty of people in CA looking for jobs.

Another side to increasing costs could be lower taxes.  Without the
government supporting illegals, the taxes SHOULD go down which would help
lower costs.  However, politicians usually like to keep taxes in place.

It will certainly be interesting to watch, especially if other states follow
suit.
