Thing is that naturalization does have a residence requirement. I forget how long it is specifically, but you have to be a legal resident (ie have a green card and live in the US) for at least 2 years or more. Then you add the investigation time i.e., - background checks, the naturalization interview and the review of such, as well as verifying the documentation etc., I can see it taking that long.
FWIW I'm still debating whether to go for my citizenship. With the new fees etc the cost is painful to say the least. And I still like being a Canadian. When I do finally decide to become a US citizen I want to do it for the right reasons, and not the wrong ones.
