The AA-12 is the ultimate weapon for a zombie invasion

Because to be honest, a shotgun is only going to net you 3 or 5 rounds
before reload, that isn't enough to protect yourself from a mob looking to
steel your food; one person, maybe.

I'd be more interested in an assault rifle myself.

Of course we could be like the Swiss, would it be better if people were
trained to use assault rifles, go through basic training and then be in a
like reserves of the reserves?

The Swiss army <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiss_army> has long been a
militia <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Militia> trained and structured to
rapidly respond against foreign aggression. Swiss males grow up expecting to
undergo basic military training, usually at age 20 in the
*Rekrutenschule*(German for "recruit school"), the initial boot camp,
after which Swiss men
remain part of the "militia" in reserve capacity until age 30 (age 34 for
officers). Each such individual is required to keep his army-issued personal
weapon (the 5.56x45mm Sig 550 <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sig_550> rifle
for enlisted personnel or the SIG 510
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIG_510>rifle and/or the 9mm SIG-Sauer
P220 <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIG_P220> semi-automatic pistol for
officers, medical and postal personnel) at home with a specified personal
retention quantity of government-issued personal ammunition (50 rounds
5.56 mm / 48 rounds 9mm), which is sealed and inspected regularly to ensure
that no unauthorized use takes
place.[3]<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics_in_Switzerland#cite_note-ammo-range-2>The
ammunition are intended for use while traveling to the army barracks
in
case of invasion.

In 2001 Swiss citizen Friedrich
Leibacher<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friedrich_Leibacher>entered a
regional Swiss parliament building and used a rifle to kill 14
people before killing
himself.[5]<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics_in_Switzerland#cite_note-4>Strangely
enough, this wasn't his personal army issue weapon, but a private
version of the army issue rifle. He committed suicide with a pistol and used
an improvised explosive
device.[6]<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics_in_Switzerland#cite_note-final_report-5>

It is claimed that approximately 300 deaths per year involve the use of
Swiss army guns, mostly suicides and family
murders.[7]<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics_in_Switzerland#cite_note-6>As
a result of this and similar media reports, gun control advocates are
trying to halt the practice of military weapons issuance and storage in the
private homes of Swiss Army members. Gun supporters question the statistics
and the practice has become a political issue. As of October 2007, the
issuing of personal ammunition after boot camp has been discontinued and a
majority of the already issued packs will be withdrawn within
2008.[8]<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics_in_Switzerland#cite_note-7>
...
In some 2001 statistics, it is noted that there are about 420,000 assault
rifles stored at private homes, mostly SIG SG
550<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIG_SG_550>types. Additionally, there
are some 320,000 assault rifles and military
pistols exempted from military service in private possession, all
selective-fire weapons having been converted to semi-automatic operation
only. In addition, there are several hundred thousand other
semi-automatic small
arms <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Small_arms> classified as
carbines<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbine>.
The total number of firearms in private homes is estimated minimally at 1.2
million to 3
million.[9]<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics_in_Switzerland#cite_note-8>
