An assumption of altruism on the part of companies and corporate is way too pie-in-the-sky for me.
I cannot think of a single company that cares more for their customers than their profits. They may take care of a customer because doing so increases their profit, but as soon as that customer becomes a cost center instead of a profit center, most businesses cannot wait to dump them. The insurance industry is the worst of this. Their entire business strategy based on years of actuarial science, is to minimize risk and maximize profits. If you want an eye-opening view of the real issues with health care reform, study the positions of the insurance lobby.
