I think that the Democrats will lose next month because of the opposite reason. They spent too much time doing half assed things and being "bipartisan" when trying to deal with a craven and callous opposition. Republicans could (and did) wheedle things like the stimulus down again and again, scoring political points each time, knowing that they could hamstring the thing, campaign against it and still bring home money from the bill that they voted against. What's to lose? Democrats did a half-assed job during a crisis that needed bold leadership. The economy is stuck as a result. Therefore they'll lose.
